Boys Lacrosse Polls – Boston Herald

By: Dan Ventura . . Bruce Lerch puts out his final regular season boys and lacrosse poll as pairings come out later this week NEW NUMBER ONE:

So after all the talk about Duxbury and Lincoln-Sudbury and which team should be number one, it ends up with Needham sneaking in under the radar and handing the Dragons their first loss in state since the 2010 Div. 1 state championship game. The Rockets defense and goalie Jack Curran held the fort until Nico and Mike Panepinto got it going in the second half, rallying Needham from a 3-1 deficit as Nico scored four goals and Mike snapped home the winner. WELCOME BACK: Seems like we have a pretty good hold on things as we hit the homestretch but we do have new arrivals to the polls, both in the boys Div. 1 ladder. Billerica returns after capturing the MVC Large title for the seventh straight year with a 6-4 victory over rival Andover. BC High is getting healthy and the return of Div. 1 commits Ian Yanulis (Duke) and Billy Breen (Albany) helped spark the Eagles to big wins over Marshfield and Xaverian. TOURNEY PREP: Teams aren’t afraid to load up at the end of the schedule and this week features several big clashes.  There are a ton of marquee matchups to keep an eye out for. Beverly at Reading, BC High/Billerica and the Medfield/Dover-Sherborn rematch highlight Monday’s slate; Tuesday features an intriguing Div. 3 matchup between Canton and Abington and a great North Shore tilt between Hamilton-Wenham and Marblehead. Skipping to Thursday for a moment, North Andover/Winchester, Foxboro/Framingham, Marblehead/Salem and Danvers/Wakefield are the top matchups. Wednesday is loaded – Concord-Carlisle at Reading, 4 p.m.; Pentucket at Wilmington, 4 p.m; Acton-Boxboro at St. John’s (Shrewsbury), 4 p.m.; Westford Academy at Wayland, 4 p.m.; Duxbury vs. Bishop Guertin (at Lasell College), 4:30 p.m.; Masconomet at Beverly, 5 p.m.; Andover at Lincoln-Sudbury, 6 p.m.; St. John’s Prep at Medfield, 6:45 p.m.; Wellesley at Bridgewater-Raynham, 7 p.m.; BC High at Cohasset, 7 p.m.; and Xaverian at Billerica, 7 p.m. Girls tournament pairings will be released Thursday with the boys to follow on Friday.
