Billerica gets revenge; Lions on deck

Senior attack Ben Melaugh scored 3 goals and passed out 2 assists as the Billerica High boys’ lacrosse team yesterday avenged last spring’s rare early-season loss by nipping non-league host Wellesley, 6-5.

Senior attack Cam Slatton added 2 goals and 2 assists, setting up the eventual winning goal by Melaugh.

Senior midfielder Peter Walters added a goal and defensive standouts for BMHS were Tommy McLaughlin, Nick Delmonico, Brian Leclair and Eddie Janakowski.

Billerica junior D.J. Smith, headed to UMass Amherst in 2013, won the battle of two of the state’s top goalies with 15 saves to out-duel Wellesley senior Conor Darcy who is headed to Penn State next fall.

Billerica hosts MVC archrival Chelmsford today at Alumni Field (4 p.m.).
