Billerica rolls, sets up semifinal vs. Duxbury

BILLERICA — Senior attack Grant Whiteway scored 4 goals and 5 assists as the Billerica High boys lacrosse team advanced to a Division 1 East semifinal rematch with Duxbury by stampeding past Acton-Boxboro, 15-6, in their quarterfinal round battle yesterday in Billerica.
The familiar rivals collide Saturday afternoon in Billerica with No. 2 seed BMHS, 20-2 overall, trying to avenge last year’s 11-10 loss. No. 3 Duxbury is 17-2 with tourney wins over Natick (16-0) and Lexington (13-4).
Whiteway’s latest rampage boosted his state single-season scoring record to 181 points, 115 goals and 76 assists, and he now has 538 career points.
The Indians’ two junior attackmen also went over 100 points for the spring, Ben Melaugh at 101 after contributing 5 goals, 1 assist and Cam Slatton at 102 following his 1 goal, 3 assist effort.
Senior midfielder Ross Murphy pocketed 3 goals and Nick Morello and Andy Cunningham notched a goal each.
Sophomore goalie DJ Smith played the first three quarters and made 10 saves, while senior Dylan Svenson had 3 stops in the final period.
Other defensive standouts were seniors Mike Curley, Ian Abrahamson, Mitch Kurker and junior Tom McLaughlin.
