Whiteway adds another record to his growing list of accomplishments

Scoring machine Grant Whiteway yesterday added the state single-season point-scoring record to his list of accomplishments as the high school All-American scored 8 goals and added 2 assists to power Billerica High to a 15-5 MIAA Division 1 East Tournament first-round win over visiting MVC rival Andover yesterday at Calabrese Stadium.

Whiteway eclipsed his own mark of 169 points set last year, boosting his career total to 524 points and counting.
Acton-Boxboro also picked up a win over BC High wile Westford Academy lost in Division 1 East, Littleton and Groton-Dunstable were eliminated in Division 2 Central and Pelham dropped a 7-6 New Hampshire Division 3 decision to Gilford.

The win was the 17th in a row for No. 2 seed Billerica (19-2).
Ben Melaugh netted a hat trick, Cam Slatton had 2 goals and 1 assist, Nick Morello 2 goals, Peter Walters 1 goal and other assists went to Russ Tedford and Jamie Kelly.
Goalie DJ Smith finished with 9 saves for BMHS, which drilled Andover 12-2 and 16-8 regular season, while defensively Mike Curley, Ian Abrahamson, Tom McLaughlin and Mitch Kurker were standouts.
The Indians host upstart No. 10 seed Acton-Boxboro (15-5) in a Wednesday night quarterfinal (5 p.m.) at Calabrese Stadium in Billerica

Junior attack Brad Forshay broke a 5-5 tie when he netted the winning goal with 2 minutes
to play, as the Colonials slipped past BC High and earned a berth opoosite Billerica Wednesday night in a quarterfinal round clash at Billerica
Forshay converted a pass from Kyle Soroka, while senior goalie Jack Rogers was sharp with 12 saves and Peter Trombly was a defensive standout as he held Eaglets’ top scorer Todd Galvin to 1 goal
Netminder Rogers prevented overtime when he made a huge save on Galvin in the final minute.
Also scoring fot A-B, which won a Division 2 state title in 1997 and has not reached the Division 1 quarterfinals since 1997, were junior attack Tyler McKelvie 2 goals, midfielder Chris Walter one, and junior midfielder Andrew Loblundo one.
Joining Trombly and Rogers as defensive standouts were Kurt Tugal and Mike Duggan.
A-B next plays No. 2 seed Billerica in a Wednesday night quarterfinal (5 p.m.) at Calabrese Stadium in Billerica.
