Whiteway taking aim at record book
Junior attackman Grant Whiteway had 7 goals and 3 assists, continuing his assault on Billerica High’s boys lacrosse record book, as the Indians rebounded strongly from their first loss of the season to defeat rival Chelmsford, 17-6, yesterday.
Whiteway scored his 300th career point, leaving him just 9 points shy of Greg Melaugh’s school record. With 71 goals and 41 assists this season, Whiteway needs 1 point to tie Ryan Danehy’s single-season school record of 113 points.
Cam Slatton had 2 goals and 4 assists for Billerica (14-1), coming off a 9-6 loss to Duxbury on Tuesday. Ben Melaugh had 2 goals and 3 assists. Ross Murphy, Bill Frevold, Tom McLaughlin, Tim Caniff, Ryan Nickerson and Dylan Fernandes each scored once.
Billerica senior defenseman Jimmy Holland helped to hold Chelmsford standout Matt Whippen to 1 goal. Sean Dougherty, Mike Curley and Ian Abrahamson also played well defensively in front of goalies D.J. Smith (7 saves) and Dylan Svenson (2 saves).
